Summary

Vascular clip closure of carotid arteries after endarterectomy is faster than sutures but carries potential risks. This study questions the clinical significance of speed over established suture methods.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare a novel vascular clip system with standard suture closure for carotid arteriotomies.
  • To evaluate the speed, hemostasis, complications, and patency of clip-based versus suture-based closure.

  • A randomized study involving 16 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy.
  • Patients were allocated to either standard suture closure (6-0 monofilament) or clip closure.

    • Potential risks associated with clip closure may outweigh the benefits of increased speed compared to sutures.
