Summary

A woman with parakeet exposure developed bronchiolitis obliterans (BO), a restrictive lung disease. Despite low anti-avian IgG, avian antigens may trigger BO in susceptible individuals.

Background:

  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis can be triggered by avian antigens.
  • Bronchiol মিশন (BO) is a severe obstructive lung disease with limited treatment options.

Observation:

  • A 64-year-old woman with 8 parakeets presented with progressive dyspnea and cough.
  • Pulmonary function tests revealed a restrictive defect.
  • Transbronchial biopsy showed histological bronchiolitis obliterans (BO).

Findings:

  • Despite significant exposure to avian antigens from pet parakeets, the patient had no elevated anti-avian IgG antibodies.
  • Transient hypogammaglobulinaemia may have masked the antibody response.
  • The findings suggest a potential link between avian antigen exposure and the development of BO.
