1Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington 99258-0001, USA.
Insights
Multiple sleep problems in a 2-year-old girl were resolved using a faded bedtime with response cost procedure. This behavioral intervention was successfully applied in a home setting by parents for a typically developing child.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric behavioral sleep medicine
- Child psychology
Background:
- Behavioral sleep interventions are crucial for addressing pediatric sleep problems.
- The faded bedtime with response cost procedure has shown efficacy in clinical settings.
Observation:
- A 2-year-old girl presented with multiple sleep problems.
- Treatment was implemented within the child's natural home environment.
Findings:
- The faded bedtime with response cost procedure led to significant improvement in the child's sleep issues.
- Parents effectively served as therapists, administering the intervention.
Implications:
- This study demonstrates the successful home-based application of a behavioral sleep intervention for a non-disabled child.
- Findings support the use of parent-led interventions for pediatric sleep disorders, extending previous research.
- The results highlight the adaptability and effectiveness of the faded bedtime with response cost procedure in real-world settings.
Abstract:
Multiple sleep problems of a 2-year-old girl improved following treatment with a faded bedtime with response cost procedure (Piazza & Fisher, 1991). These results extend the literature by implementing treatment in a home setting with a nondisabled child using the parents as therapists.
