Effortful echolalia can occur in patients with cerebral infarction and Transcortical Motor Aphasia. These patients exhibit nonfluent speech but can still repeat words, indicating a unique speech disturbance.

  • Lesions in the left medial frontal lobe, including the supplementary motor area, may be implicated in effortful echolalia.
  • Further research into the neural correlates of echolalia is warranted for improved patient care.
