Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the safety and effectiveness of an aggressive exercise protocol (AET) versus a standard exercise protocol (SET).
  • To determine if AET achieves higher maximal heart rates and rate-pressure products.
  • To compare the diagnostic accuracy of AET and SET for detecting coronary artery disease using myocardial scintigraphy.

Main Methods:

  • Eighty-four patients underwent both a standard exercise test (SET) and an aggressive exercise test (AET) with myocardial scintigraphy (Tc-99m sestamibi SPECT).

    • AET effectively achieves higher heart rates and rate-pressure products, leading to more maximal and positive exercise tests.
    • The aggressive protocol significantly improves the diagnostic accuracy of exercise stress tests for coronary artery disease detection.
