Summary

Oocyte donation and in-vitro fertilization pregnancies in women under 40 resulted in significant obstetrical complications. These findings suggest caution when considering higher age limits for fertility treatments.

Background:

Investigating pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing oocyte donation and in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
Assessing risks associated with assisted reproductive technologies in women with specific medical histories.

Observation:

Five women aged 26-34 years conceived via oocyte donation and IVF.
Participants had diverse medical backgrounds including Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy, premature menopause, and previous ovarian surgery.
Pregnancy complications included pre-eclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage; one twin was lost in utero.

Findings:

A high incidence of obstetrical complications was observed in this cohort of women under 40.
The study highlights potential risks associated with advanced maternal age and assisted reproduction.

Implications:

Current age limits for IVF in the Netherlands (around 40) may need re-evaluation due to high complication rates.
Informed consent for oocyte donation candidates must include comprehensive risk disclosure.
Home births are strongly discouraged for women undergoing assisted reproductive treatments due to elevated risks.
