  • Focus on mild cognitive decline in the elderly population.
  • Part of the Psychogeriatrics program within the SGO Health Research Promotion Programme.

Purpose:

  • Develop diagnostic tools for early dementia detection.
  • Establish criteria to predict the progression of mild cognitive impairment.
  • Investigate the link between physical/psychiatric conditions and dementia.
  • Enhance medical education and patient care in psychogeriatrics.

Summary:

  • General practice screening for dementia can utilize questions about orientation and short-term memory.
  • Identified risk factors for cognitive deterioration include hippocampal atrophy (MRI), lower education levels, and subjective memory complaints.
