[Oncologic surgery of colon carcinoma]

Surgical oncology of carcinomas of the colon is also surgery of lymph drainage compartments, including radicular ligation of the vessels and tissue planes. According to tumor localisation and safety margins at the resection lines, standardized surgical procedures with the aim of R0 resection can be defined. R-classification is a strong independent prognostic factor regarding survival benefit. Adjuvant chemotherapy in curative resected colonic cancer UICC stage III should be recommended in general but modifications of this regimen must be investigated in further studies.
