Abstract:
An attempt is made to define the role of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP). Implications of Post-Registration Education and Practice (PREP) (UKCC, 1990), The New Deal (NHS Management Executive, 1992) and The Scope of Professional Practice (UKCC, 1992) are considered. Advanced traditional and practical nursing skills are reviewed. An opportunity for professionalism and increased autonomy for nurses is explored.
