Furthermore, changes in gene expression profiles are responsible for tumour formation and tumour progression, as well as for many other human diseases. Thus, the definition of distinct patterns of gene expression is not only essential for understanding complex biological processes but also leads to the identification of novel targets for therapy of various diseases.
