    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of technetium scanning in diagnosing and localizing lacrimal drainage obstructions.
    • To compare technetium scanning with conventional contrast dacryocystography.

    Main Methods:

    • Technetium scanning was performed on 78 eyes.
    • 25 eyes underwent conventional contrast dacryocystography.
    • Eyes were categorized as symptomatic or asymptomatic for epiphora.

    Main Results:

    • All 26 asymptomatic eyes showed normal scans.
    • 52 symptomatic eyes exhibited abnormal scans, indicating presac or postsac blockage.
    • Good correlation was observed between technetium scanning and dacryocystography, except for three functional block cases.

    • Technetium scanning is a valuable tool for diagnosing lacrimal obstruction.
    • The technique aids in localizing the site of blockage within the lacrimal drainage system.
