Abstract:
Most benign esophageal affections may be successfully subjected to carefully selected non-invasive but mainly to surgical techniques; special attention is being paid today to refluxcaused esophagitis and its sequelae. They both require a special strategy of anti-reflux measures - sometimes combined with suppression of peptic aggression. Fundoplicatio according to R. Nissen - if necessary complemented by selective vagotomy - to a large extent meets the needs of a surgical technique adapted to this type of disease.
