Four pathways to suicide in clinical depression are proposed: acute anxiety/agitation linked to high corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRF), chronic hopelessness, severe anhedonia, and impulsiveness associated with low serotonin and cholesterol. These factors offer targets for suicide prevention.
