Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology
  • Clinical Medicine

Background:

  • Diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB) is a chronic inflammatory airway disease affecting the sinopulmonary system.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease primarily affecting joints but can have extra-articular manifestations.

Observation:

  • This study reports on three patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • All three RA patients presented with symptoms and findings consistent with diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB).

Findings:

  • The cases suggest a potential association between rheumatoid arthritis and diffuse panbronchiolitis.
  • DPB may represent an underrecognized pulmonary complication in patients with RA.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Recognizing DPB as a potential manifestation of RA could improve early diagnosis and management of respiratory symptoms in RA patients.
  • Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms connecting RA and DPB.
