Summary

Individuals reporting out-of-body experiences (OBEs) did not differ in psychological control or purpose. However, OBE reporters showed stronger beliefs in Psi, Spiritualism, and extraordinary life forms.

Background:

Out-of-body experiences (OBEs) are complex phenomena.
Understanding the psychological profiles of OBE reporters is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate psychological differences between individuals who report out-of-body experiences and those who do not.
To explore correlations between OBE reporting and specific belief systems.

Main Methods:

Comparative analysis of two groups: OBE reporters (n=21) and non-reporters (n=159).
Assessment using the Spheres of Control Scale, Self-efficacy Scale, and Purpose in Life Scale.
Survey of beliefs in Psi, Spiritualism, and Extraordinary Life Forms.

No significant differences were found in Spheres of Control, Self-efficacy, or Purpose in Life between the groups.
OBE reporters demonstrated significantly higher belief scores in Psi, Spiritualism, and Extraordinary Life Forms compared to non-reporters.

Psychological factors like control and purpose do not distinguish OBE reporters.
Belief in paranormal and extraordinary phenomena is a key differentiator for individuals reporting OBEs.
