Occult annular ciliary body detachment can cause postoperative angle-closure glaucoma, mimicking malignant glaucoma. Ultrasound biomicroscopy is key for diagnosing this condition.

Background:

Observation:

  • A case series of 6 patients with postoperative malignant glaucoma was studied.
  • High-resolution anterior segment ultrasound biomicroscopy was utilized.
  • Ophthalmoscopy and B-scan ultrasonography were also performed.

Findings:

  • Annular ciliary body detachment was identified in all 6 eyes using ultrasound biomicroscopy.
  • Patients presented with elevated intraocular pressure and shallow anterior chambers.
