A rare retrovesical leiomyoma caused urinary difficulty in a 41-year-old woman. Surgical excision via a transvaginal approach successfully removed the benign tumor.

Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Urology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Leiomyomas are typically found in the uterus but can occur in other pelvic locations.
  • Retrovéscical tumors are uncommon, and leiomyomas in this location are exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A 41-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of dysuria.
  • Physical examination revealed a 6 cm anterior vaginal wall mass.
  • Imaging (DIP and MRI) identified a retrovesical tumor.

Findings:

  • Transvaginal needle biopsy suggested a benign leiomyoma.
  • Surgical excision via transvaginal approach was performed.
  • Histological examination confirmed a 7 x 6 x 4 cm, 109 g leiomyoma.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos

  • This case highlights the possibility of leiomyomas occurring in the retrovesical space.
  • Successful transvaginal excision demonstrates a viable surgical option for these rare tumors.
  • This represents the 21st reported case of retrovesical leiomyoma in Japan, contributing to limited literature.
