Summary

Accurate assessment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is challenging due to co-morbidity and late symptom onset. This article presents a five-stage assessment to help clinicians differentiate PTSD from other disorders.

Background:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a complex diagnosis often complicated by co-occurring conditions and delayed symptom manifestation.
Accurate PTSD assessment is crucial, as misdiagnosis can lead to ineffective or inappropriate therapeutic interventions.
The increasing prevalence of PTSD diagnoses necessitates reliable and accessible assessment tools for clinicians.
