How nurses experience caring for organ donors--why do they feel so bad?
Abstract:
For some time in my life as a nurse, working in Neurosurgery Intensive Care Units, I have frequently had the opportunity to care for patients in a coma. The patient in a coma, more than the coma's clinical situation itself, was a huge challenge. To be more precise, the person in a coma always fascinated me. I don't remember at any time doubting that I was caring for a person, but I often felt the need to be conscious of it, in order to control my performance and to give humane care.
