Direct posterior composite restorations--state of the art 1998

During the last 30 years, dental researchers have been searching for the ultimate restorative material and attempting to make Dr. Ralph Phillips' prediction come true. He predicted in 1969 that in the future there would be an adhesive material that would restore the tooth to its original strength and color. Direct resin composites have come a long way since being introduced in 1962 but have not yet become the panacea for which we are searching.
