Summary

Tuberculosis can affect lymph nodes outside the lungs, particularly in immigrants. This study highlights rare cases of inguinal tuberculous adenitis in immunocompetent women, successfully treated with standard therapy.

Background:

  • Non-respiratory tuberculosis, including extrapulmonary forms, is common in immigrants and immunocompromised individuals.
  • Peripheral lymph node involvement, typically cervical, is the most frequent extrapulmonary manifestation.
  • Tuberculous inguinal adenitis is a rare condition with few reported cases in recent literature.

Observation:

  • Two cases of isolated inguinal inflammatory lymphadenitis in immigrant, immunocompetent women were observed.
  • Diagnosis was confirmed via culture from needle aspiration of affected lymph nodes.
  • Both patients presented with symptoms indicative of tuberculosis affecting the inguinal region.

Findings:

  • Tuberculosis was confirmed as the causative agent of inguinal lymphadenitis in both cases.
  • The disease presented as isolated inguinal adenitis, without respiratory involvement.
  • Needle aspiration culture proved effective for diagnosing tuberculous inguinal adenitis.

Implications:

  • This report expands the understanding of extrapulmonary tuberculosis presentations.
  • It emphasizes the importance of considering tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of inguinal lymphadenitis, especially in at-risk populations.
  • Standard antituberculous therapy demonstrated complete healing of tuberculous inguinal adenitis.
