Abstract:
Altered micro- and macrocirculation in burns allows the hypertonic (10%) solution of sodium chloride with dextran to be used for primary fluid resuscitation as well as with the purpose of reducing the interstitial edema. Efficacy of dextran was evaluated in 13 patients with burn shock. Dextran (1:1) in the dose of (7.2 +/- 0.8) ml/kg body mass makes for stabilization of the arterial blood pressure and permits managing without infusion of dopamine but is not an alternative to be regarded as radical cure; it can be recommended as a provisional measure for the adequate hemodynamics to be maintained in this extremely grave condition.
