Summary

Hepatocytes secreting MHC class I antigen (Ag) can inhibit cytotoxic T lymphocyte precursors (CTLp), potentially inducing suppressor cells and prolonging allograft survival. Membrane-bound Ag, however, primes CTLp, an effect blocked by secreted Ag.
