Patients with Graves' disease (GD) exhibit less conjugate saccades and lower maximum velocities compared to controls. These distinct eye movement patterns in Graves' disease can be reliably identified.

Background:

  • Graves' disease (GD) is an autoimmune disorder that can affect eye movements.
  • Understanding saccadic eye movements in GD is crucial for diagnosis and management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize saccades in patients with Graves' disease.
  • To quantitatively differentiate saccadic eye movements in GD patients from healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • Simultaneous recording of saccades in both eyes using electromagnetic search coils in 12 GD patients and 12 controls.
  • Analysis of saccadic conjugacy and dynamics (maximum velocity, saturation constant).
  • Statistical analysis including repeated measures ANOVA and exact logistic regression for classification.
