    Background:

    • Hemorrhagic hypotension can disrupt fluid balance.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate changes in arterial plasma osmolality and glucose during graded hemorrhagic hypotension in cats.
    • To determine the relationship between hypotension severity and osmolality changes.
    • To assess the role of glucose, lactate, and potassium in hyperosmolality during bleeding.

    Main Methods:

    • Cats were subjected to graded hemorrhagic hypotension (80, 50, and 30 mmHg) for 30 minutes.
    • Arterial plasma osmolality and glucose concentrations were measured.
    • Plasma lactate and potassium levels were analyzed at later stages of hypotension.

    Main Results:

    • Hemorrhagic hypotension induced significant plasma hyperosmolality at all tested levels.
    • The increase in plasma osmolality was quantitatively related to the degree of hypotension.
    • Elevated plasma glucose was the primary contributor to hyperosmolality, especially at 80 and 50 mmHg.
