Oral antihistamines reduce the side effects from rapid vancomycin infusion

Oral antihistamines effectively prevent red man syndrome, a histamine-mediated reaction to rapid vancomycin infusions. Pretreatment with H1 and H2 blockers is a safe and inexpensive option to reduce rash and hypotension.

- Oral antihistamines demonstrated comparable effectiveness to IV antihistamines in preventing these adverse events.
