  • Candida albicans contamination likely resulted from lemon juice used as a solubility agent.
  • Treatment with fluconazole (400 mg/d) resulted in rapid clinical improvement.

Implications:

  • Sudden pustular or nodular lesions in pilous areas of heroin users suggest candidiasis.
  • Prompt diagnosis and treatment, including searching for other infections, are vital.
  • Ostiofollicular candidiasis in heroin addicts may be linked to specific drug preparation methods.
