Mass spectrometric investigation of peptide amides

The reaction products of trifluoroacetic anhydride with peptide amides are identified as stable heterocyclic imidazolin-5(4)-ones, which can be analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry. The mass spectra show intense molecular ions and allow the assignment of the amino acid sequence.
