Summary

This study found no link between vitamin D receptor (VDR) genotype and lethal prostate cancer. The vitamin D receptor genotype does not appear to be associated with aggressive prostate cancer.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) genotype and lethal prostate cancer.
  • To compare the VDR genotype of patients who died from prostate cancer with that of controls without the disease.

  • DNA was isolated from lethal prostate cancer patients and controls.
  • Vitamin D receptor (VDR) genotype was determined using TaqI restriction fragment length polymorphism and poly-A microsatellite repeat analysis.
