Summary

Early diagnosis of vitamin E deficiency is crucial for treating ataxia. Supplementation can improve or halt ataxia progression, but surgical intervention may be needed in some cases.

Background:

  • Vitamin E supplementation led to significant ataxia improvement in one patient after 6-12 months.
  • The other patient experienced halted symptom progression with minimal improvement, necessitating stereotactic thalamotomy.

Implications:

  • Testing for vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) deficiency is vital in undiagnosed ataxia cases.
