Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Regenerative Medicine

Background:

  • Autologous fat injection is a widely utilized technique for correcting contour deformities.
  • Suction-assisted lipectomy-derived fat has been successfully used for reconstructive purposes.

Observation:

  • A 44-year-old woman developed a large cyst containing mature fat lobules post-autologous fat transplantation.
  • The cyst formed in the left groin following correction of a contour anomaly.
  • The cyst was first observed 3 months and surgically removed 5 months post-procedure.

Findings:

  • Histological examination confirmed the cyst lobules consisted of mature fat cells.
  • This indicates a rare complication of fat grafting procedures.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of monitoring for rare complications following fat grafting.
  • Understanding cyst formation mechanisms is crucial for refining fat transplantation techniques.
  • Further research may elucidate preventative strategies for post-transplantation cyst development.
