Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of salmeterol in persistent asthma.

  • To assess the impact of salmeterol on pulmonary function and asthma symptoms.

Main Methods:

  • A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
  • 386 patients with persistent asthma were randomized to salmeterol or placebo.
