A fractured incisor treated with apexification revealed an unusual cap structure at the root apex. Histological and SEM analysis confirmed unique anatomic characteristics in this dental case.
Area of Science:
- Dentistry
- Endodontics
- Dental Traumatology
Background:
- A maxillary central incisor experienced trauma, followed by apexification and internal thermocatalytic bleaching.
- The tooth later sustained a horizontal fracture at the cementoenamel junction, leading to extraction.
Observation:
- Following extraction, the root apex was subjected to histological examination and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
- An apexification 'cap' was identified at the root apex.
Findings:
- The observed apexification cap exhibited unusual anatomical characteristics and structure.
- Histological and SEM analyses provided detailed insights into the cap's morphology.
Implications:
- This finding contributes to understanding the complex outcomes of apexification procedures.
- Further research may elucidate the clinical significance of such unique apexification cap structures in dental traumatology.
