Area of Science:

  • Electrochemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis

Background:

  • Cefotaxime is a widely used cephalosporin antibiotic.
  • Sensitive and reliable methods are needed for cefotaxime determination.
  • Electrochemical methods offer potential for rapid analysis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the electrooxidation of cefotaxime.
  • To evaluate different electrode materials for cefotaxime detection.
  • To develop a voltammetric method for cefotaxime quantification.

Main Methods:

  • Electrochemical investigation of cefotaxime using activated glassy carbon (GC), platinum, and carbon paste (CP) electrodes.
  • Studies were conducted in various supporting electrolytes and pH conditions.
  • Voltammetric analysis and calibration graphs were employed.

Main Results:

  • Electrode material significantly influenced voltammogram shape and oxidation steps.
  • Activated GC electrode demonstrated superior performance for cefotaxime analysis.
  • A linear relationship with two slopes was observed for cefotaxime concentration determination using activated GC in 0.2 M H3PO4.

Conclusions:

  • The activated GC electrode is highly suitable for cefotaxime electrooxidation.
  • The developed voltammetric method is reliable for cefotaxime determination.
  • Electrochemical techniques provide a viable analytical approach for pharmaceutical analysis.
