Pregnant adolescents' perceptions of their babies before and after realtime ultrasound

1. Research has shown that adolescent mothers both overestimate and underestimate their infant's abilities. 2. Results indicated that the majority of the adolescents exhibited a different perception of their fetus postultrasound, especially in their babies' kinesthetic characteristics. 3. Nurses must develop visual aids that are attractive, bright in color, contain more pictures than words, and are kinesthetic in nature. These visual instructional processes regarding fetal characteristics including movement, heart beating, and developmental capabilities should be incorporated in pregnant teen educational programs.
