Summary

Cerebral tissue pulmonary embolism (CTPE) is a rare complication of head trauma. This case study highlights a successful single lung transplant despite donor CTPE, showing excellent graft function.

Background:

  • Cerebral tissue pulmonary embolism (CTPE) is a rare but serious complication following severe head trauma.
  • CTPE in deceased donors can lead to early graft dysfunction and mortality in lung transplant recipients.
  • Coagulation disturbances and hemorrhage often complicate CTPE.

Observation:

  • A 41-year-old female underwent a single lung transplant.
  • The donor organ was identified as having a cerebral tissue pulmonary embolism.
  • The patient had no reported history of coagulation disorders or active hemorrhage.

Findings:

  • The recipient experienced excellent post-operative graft function.
  • Despite the presence of donor CTPE, early graft survival was not compromised.
