Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is common indigestion. Management depends on symptoms and investigation results, with most cases managed by symptom relief.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent, chronic condition causing indigestion.
Key symptoms include recurrent heartburn and regurgitation.

Observation:

Patients with typical GERD symptoms and no alarm features (e.g., dysphagia, weight loss) may be treated empirically.
Alarm symptoms or poor treatment response necessitate investigations like endoscopy and pH monitoring.
Approximately 60% of GERD patients lack visible mucosal injury, requiring symptom-focused management.
