Laterally hypertrophic adenoids as a contributing factor in otitis media

Lateral adenoid hypertrophy encroaching on the Eustachian tube orifice is strongly correlated with otitis media with effusion (OME) requiring pressure equalization tubes (PET). This finding helps predict which children with OME will benefit most from adenoidectomy.
