Four factors of nurse caring in the ICU

Phenomenological research is conducted to understand the lived experience of persons-patients, families, nurses. This research report describes the feelings of 15 critical care nurses about their experiences of caring. Four major factors (support, role modeling, patient and family interactions, and economic/bureaucratic forces) were identified as crucial aspects of caring in critical care by the nurses. These four factors can be used to increase caring behaviors of nurses in critical care.
