Abstract
Background:
Disseminated gonocococcal infection arising during pregnancy is an uncommon occurrence. Gonococcemia following a threatened abortion has not been documented previously.
Case:
Gonococcal arthritis and endocarditis in a 22-year-old primigravida occurred following a midtrimester threatened abortion.
Conclusion:
Since gonococcemia is thought to be secondary to endocervical disruption, chemoprophylaxis in the gravid cardiac patient after a threatened abortion is recommended.
