Abstract:
The Center for Practice and Technology Assessment (CPTA), which falls within the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, was formed in 1997. By combining the Office of the Forum for Quality and Effectiveness in Health Care, which was responsible for the clinical practice guideline program, and the Center for Technology Assessment, CPTA was born. This paper discusses the roles of CPTA in the development of evidence-based medicine and clinical practice guidelines in treatment decisions.
