A 53-year-old woman developed multiple neurilemomas across her body, including spine and peripheral nerves. This case is the first documented instance of widespread neurilemomas without Von Recklinghausen's disease.

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Neurilemomas are benign nerve sheath tumors.
  • Multiple neurilemomas are rare and often associated with genetic syndromes like Von Recklinghausen's disease.

Observation:

  • A 53-year-old female patient presented with numerous neurilemomas.
  • Tumors were identified in various locations: thoracic spine, lumbar spine, retroperitoneal sympathetic chain, sacral nerve root, femoral nerve, sciatic nerves, radial nerve, and ulnar nerve.

Findings:

  • The patient exhibited multiple neurilemomas throughout the body.
  • Crucially, there was no evidence of Von Recklinghausen's disease (neurofibromatosis type 1).

Implications:

  • This case expands the known clinical presentations of neurilemomas.

Related Experiment Videos

  • It highlights the possibility of multiple neurilemomas occurring sporadically, without underlying genetic predisposition.
  • Further research may be needed to understand the pathogenesis of such widespread, non-syndromic presentations.
