Summary

This study shows that a bacterial enzyme, fatty acid alpha-hydroxylase, can metabolize phytanic acid, a branched-chain fatty acid. This enzyme oxidizes phytanic acid into 2-hydroxyphytanic acid, offering insights into fatty acid metabolism.
