Summary

This study shows that simulation technology effectively teaches radiologists crisis management skills. Participants demonstrated improved performance and highly rated the realistic training program.

Background:

Computerized realistic simulation technology is established in aviation, military, and nuclear power training.
It has been adapted for anesthesia crisis resource management.
This study explores its application in radiology.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the effectiveness of a simulation program for teaching radiologists crisis management principles.
To evaluate the impact of simulation on behavioral performance in simulated crises.

Main Methods:

A mock CT scanner and patient simulator created a realistic crisis environment for 24 radiology residents.
Participants underwent randomized crisis scenarios, lectures, and videotape reviews.
Behavioral qualities and course satisfaction were evaluated using a five-point scale.

Main Results:

Residents who received lecture and videotape review before scenarios showed significantly higher scores in global assessment, communication, use of support, resource utilization, and role clarity.
Average participant ratings for overall usefulness, goal attainment, scenario realism, lecture, and review quality were high (4.63-4.93 out of 5).

Conclusions:

Simulation technology effectively imparts crisis management principles to radiologists.
The developed training program was well-received and accepted by participants.
