    Summary

    Laser pointers can cause serious macular injury, even in healthy individuals. Accidental or deliberate exposure to the eye necessitates immediate medical attention to prevent lasting vision damage.

    Findings:

    • Ophthalmoscopy revealed a focal retinal pigment epithelial disturbance at the nasal edge of the fovea in the left eye.
    • Fundus fluorescein angiography confirmed a corresponding hyperfluorescent window defect, indicative of RPE damage.
    • Despite the visible lesion, visual acuity remained unaffected at presentation.

    Implications:

    • Inappropriate use of laser pointing devices can lead to significant macular injury.
    • Adherence to consumer safety recommendations is crucial to mitigate the risks associated with these devices.
