    Summary

    Occult traumatic patellar dislocation may exist, presenting with specific radiological lesions similar to known dislocations. This condition can occur in individuals unaware of prior patellar dislocation events, even in normal knees.

    Background:

    • Clinically established traumatic patellar dislocation is associated with specific surgical and radiological findings.
    • Previous research has focused on diagnosed cases of patellar dislocation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the existence of an occult traumatic patellar dislocation syndrome.
    • To identify characteristic lesions in patients presenting with hemarthrosis without a history of patellar dislocation.

    Main Methods:

    • Radiological assessment of patellar location using the Insall and Salvati index.
    • Measurement of the intercondylar groove width using the Brattström method.
    • Evaluation of knee cap morphology according to Knutsson's criteria.

    Main Results:

    • Patients with hemarthrosis and no known dislocation exhibited the same radiological lesions as those with established dislocations.
    • Patellar vertical location was normal (Insall and Salvati index).
    • Intercondylar groove width was frequently below the normal upper limit (Brattström method), and knee caps were morphologically normal.

    • These lesions can occur in individuals unaware of prior patellar dislocations.
