    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Cardiology
    • Hematology

    Background:

    • Pericarditis is inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart.
    • Hodgkin's disease is a type of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.

    Observation:

    • Two patients initially presented with symptoms of pericarditis.
    • Following initial pericarditis symptoms, both patients developed palpable lymph nodes.
    • A diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease was subsequently made in both cases.

    Findings:

    • This case series describes a rare presentation of Hodgkin's disease.
    • The initial clinical manifestation mimicked idiopathic pericarditis.
    • Lymphadenopathy became apparent several weeks after the onset of pericarditis.

    Implications:

    • Hodgkin's disease should be included in the differential diagnosis for patients presenting with pericarditis.
    • Consideration is particularly important for cases of pericarditis with severe systemic symptoms or an extended duration.
    • This underscores the need for thorough diagnostic evaluation in complex pericarditis cases.
