[Early diagnosis of bronchial cancer: its usefulness]

Incidence of and mortality from bronchial carcinoma are reviewed. The advantages of early recognition of the disease and the favourable role of early recognition as a factor in the therapeutic outcome are stressed. Etiologic factors and diagnostic procedures are summarized. The need for a public education program is emphasized.
