Severe mitral regurgitation after percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty (PMV) can necessitate mitral valve replacement (MVR). A suboptimal PMV result, indicated by mitral valve area < 1.5 cm², independently predicted the need for MVR in patients who developed severe mitral regurgitation.
