On call. My husband subscribes to "Harvard Men's Health Watch," but I read it and like it as much as he does. Since he listens to your advice, I hope you can resolve a problem that worries me. My husband refuses to throw out pills that are past expiration dates. I never keep foods longer than I should, so I hope you'll convince him to clean out the medicine closet the way I take care of the fridge and pantryHarvey B Simon

On call. I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. I reread your articles from December 2003 and January 2004 and found them very helpful. I was hoping that my doctor would prescribe a diuretic, but she said it would not be safe because I'm allergic to sulfa drugs. What do you think?Harvey B Simon

On call. Last month I developed severe weakness on the whole left side of my face. My doctor diagnosed Bell's palsy and referred me to a neurologist. I recovered before I got to see her, so I didn't keep the appointment. Although my face is now back to normal, I'd like to know more about the condition. What can you tell me?Harvey B Simon

On call. I hope you can clear up some family confusion. My doctor gave me a prescription for Niaspan, but my wife found the same medication, niacin, at the supermarket at a much lower price. Is it a drug or a vitamin?Harvey B Simon

On call. I know that Viagra is safe for men with high blood pressure, but is it also safe for men with high eye pressures?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|July 25, 2007
On call. In your January 2007 article on cholesterol, you said that no-flush niacin does not lower cholesterol levels. But my problem is low HDL cholesterol. Will no-flush niacin help my HDL even if it won't lower my LDL cholesterol?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|May 23, 2007
On call. Your January issue convinced me that obesity increases the risk of prostate cancer. It depresses me a bit, since I'm overweight, so my question is both personal and practical: if I lose weight, will I undo the harm?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|August 28, 2010
On call. I am a 78-year-old man with two medical problems, an enlarged prostate and cataracts. I take Flomax for my prostate with good results, but I've been told that it can cause complications during cataract surgery. Should I stop taking Flomax before I have surgery--and if so, what should I do about my prostate?Harvey B Simon
